MODULES: Bulkhead - #00039
The choice of bulkhead is harder than it might seem.
Apart from cost issues, one should have a clear picture of what a certain bulkhead can do for you and what it will have for side effects.
Here is a list of options with everything you need to know:
- LIGHT bulkhead
- REINFORCED bulkhead
- MILITARY bulkhead
Weight: N/A
RAW protection: minimal, depending on ship type
Resistance against EXPLOSIVE attacks: 71%
Resistance against KINETIC attacks: 83%
Resistance against THERMAL attacks: 100%
The light bulkhead is the standard hull protection on any ship.
Its resistance against thermal (laser) weapons is standard, resistances against missiles and guns is weak.
Use the light bulkhead whenever you have to keep your ship as light as possible. This might be the case on agile combat ships, exploration vessels or long range traders.
Tip: If you got engineer access, a reinforced 'light' bulkhead still has zero weight, but full benefit of this modification. It does not add weight when modified for strength.
Weight: Additional 50% of the 'big' bulkheads (military/mirrored/reactive)
RAW protection: ca. 140% of the light bulkhead
Resistance against EXPLOSIVE attacks: 71%
Resistance against KINETIC attacks: 83%
Resistance against THERMAL attacks: 100%
The reinforced bulkhead adds some real weight to your ship. Dependent on ship type, you add about 7.5 to 15% of your 'empty hull weight' to your build.
This for roughly 6 MJ of additional protection per ton.
Use a reinforced bulkhead if you desperately need more hull protection and if you need to keep your weight down AND you don't have the chance to add HRP (hull reinforcement protection) modules into some empty optional slot. These are way better in adding hull protection weight wise.
Weight: Additional 100% of the 'big bulkheads' (military/mirrored/reactive)
RAW protection: ca. 195% of the light bulkhead
Resistance against EXPLOSIVE attacks: 71%
Resistance against KINETIC attacks: 83%
Resistance against THERMAL attacks: 100%
The military bulkhead is basically the 'heavier' variant of the reinforced bulkhead which is the heavier variant of the light bulkhead.
It adds an enormous amount of weight to your ship, so please only use it if you don't care about your agility in fights. It is always (!) a better way to add HRP (hull reinforcement protection) modules instead of a military bulkhead.
